How to charge your DemerBox
Not sure how to charge your DemerBox?
First, take a moment to learn some of the internal components of your DemerBox.
Step 1: Open Your DemerBox.
Step 2: Connect your DemerBox charger to a wall outlet. IMPORTANT: use ONLY a DemerBox charger for charging. The DemerBox uses a 12.6 volt charger. Using a different charger (anything more or less in voltage) can damage your battery and charging capabilities.
NOTE: The charger light should turn GREEN - indicating that power is coming from the wall outlet.
Step 3: Snake your charging cable through the port hole and connect to the charge port connection.
Step 4: Check the light on your wall charger. It should now be RED - indicating that it is charging your DemerBox.
NOTE: At this point, you can close your DemerBox. You will be able to play music while the unit is charging.
Step 5: Once the DemerBox is fully charged, the light on your charger will return to GREEN.
NEXT STEPS: At this point you should disconnect the charger from the DemerBox and the wall. We don't recommend leaving your DemerBox plugged in beyond the time needed to charge as this can reduce the battery's longevity. Depending on how much charge your unit needs, it can take up to 5 hours to fully charge.
Tutorial: Battery Capacity
Know your battery
How long does the DemerBox last between charges?
Our original DemerBox (no exterior volume control) can last 50 hours or more when fully charged. This is assuming the ambient temperature is 72F, or 22C. If it's colder, the battery life will be reduced. If you're using your DemerBox to charge your phone, GoPro, or other device, this will also reduce the battery life.
Our new DB2 model (exterior volume control and battery indicator lights) can last 40 hours or more when fully charged. Again, this assumes the ambient temperature is 72F, or 22C. The battery life will be reduced when it's cold out. If you're using your DemerBox to charge your phone, GoPro, or other device, this will also reduce the battery life.
How long does it take to charge a DemerBox?
Can I leave my DemerBox battery charger plugged in all the time?
You technically can, but it will shorten the life of your battery. Lithium Ion batteries are happiest when they are 40% charged and stored at 59F, or 15C. They do not need to be fully discharged or fully charged for best battery maintenance.
What happens to the battery when I use the USB device charge feature?
Your battery will drain a bit faster depending on the energy pulled to your device. The amount of battery drained from your DemerBox will also depend on how much charge your USB-connected device needs. If you're unsure if your DemerBox battery is operating properly and you've been charging devices, we recommend fully charging the DemerBox and using it for one power cycle without charging a device.
Can the DemerBox team replace my battery?
We sure can! Depending on when you bought your DemerBox, we might even be able to fix it for free. Every DemerBox comes with a 1 year warranty on all parts and labor with a few exclusions for damage. In either case, open a support ticket so we can assist you further.
How to connect your DemerBox using Bluetooth in single unit and multi-cast modes
Bluetooth connection
As you can see, the only way to visually distinguish which speaker you have is by looking at the power switch. The DB2 model has volume buttons and indicator lights while the original DemerBox does not.
SINGLE UNIT MODE: How to Pair Your Device via Bluetooth
Step 1: Turn on the DemerBox by pressing the power button. This makes the DemerBox "discoverable" to Bluetooth-enabled devices.
- Note: If you have a DB2 (image on the right above), after a few seconds the DemerBox will say "pairing". If you have an original DemerBox (image on the left above), the DemerBox will not say "pairing."
Step 2: Go to your device's Bluetooth settings. Make sure that your device has Bluetooth enabled.
Step 3: Tap on "DemerBox" to connect.
How to Pair Your Device via Bluetooth: MULTI-CAST MODE
Step 1: Turn off all DemerBox's you wish to multi-cast.
Step 2: Choose a DemerBox to use as your "Primary" speaker. Connect it via Bluetooth using the "single unit mode" instructions above.
Step 3: After the "Primary" speaker is connected to Bluetooth, press and hold the UP volume button until you hear "Broadcast Mode Enabled." The right LED light on the keypad will begin to blink.
The right-most light blinking indicates that the Primary speaker is in "Broadcast Mode" and is ready to connect to another DemerBox.
Step 4: Turn on another DemerBox speaker. This unit will be a "Satellite" speaker.
Step 5: On this second speaker, press and hold the DOWN volume button until you hear "Broadcast Audio Enabled." Both speakers are now ENABLED for multi-cast mode and are ready for pairing.
Step 6: To activate multi-cast pairing, quick press both the UP and DOWN buttons on the Primary speaker at the same time. Repeat the action on the Satellite speaker.
- The LED lights on the Primary DemerBox will begin a back and forth tracking pattern.
- The LED lights on the Satellite DemerBox will alternate a left / right pattern.
- After a few moments, you should hear "paired." You are now ready to listen to both speakers.
WATCH THE FULL WALKTHROUGH:
Notes for Connecting More Speakers:
- Once the DemerBox's are in multi-cast pairing mode, they will stay active for 30 seconds. You can connect more Satellite speakers to the Primary DemerBox during this time. You will know if they are active by the LED patterns described in Step 6.
- If you are adding another speaker after the initial 30 second Primary/Satellite DemerBox pairing, repeat Steps 4 through 6 to connect another Satellite unit.
Volume Control and Exiting Multi-Cast Mode:
- When in multi-cast mode, the Primary speaker volume buttons control the volume on all paired speakers. You can also use the volume control on your device.
- To exit multi-cast mode, hold the UP/DOWN volume buttons for 5 seconds. You can also simply turn the DemerBox off to disconnect.
How to connect your DemerBox using the Auxiliary cable
Aux cable connection
How to Connect Your Device via Auxiliary Cable
Step 1: Plug one end of your Aux cable into the DemerBox.
Step 2: Snake the cable through the internal port hole. Close the DemerBox lid and latches.
Step 3: Connect the other end of the Aux cable to the audio output on your device.
Notes for Aux Connection:
- To control the volume when connected via Aux cable, use the volume controls on your device. The UP/DOWN Volume buttons on the DemerBox itself only work when connected via Bluetooth.

Care, Waterproofing, & Maximizing Usage
How do I clean my DemerBox?
It's easy to clean your DemerBox! Here's a page taken right from our "Tips and Tricks" document.
How to Clean Your DemerBox:
The dings and dents your DemerBox will acquire tell a story, but the dirt, salt, and grime can get kind of gross -
1. How to clean the exterior
- Insert Port Plug and wash DemerBox in the kitchen sink with a sponge and soapy water.
- Rinse with clean water. Don’t spray a forceful stream of water on the speakers or the switch.
Note: A Magic Eraser works great for getting tough smudges and marks clean. Rubbing alcohol is also a good option for cleaning the outside.
2. How to clean the interior
- Turn the DemerBox off. Disconnect and remove all cables.
- Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe out the inside of the DemerBox.
- Don’t drip water into the charge port, USB or 3.5mm stereo jack.
- Leave box open until it’s fully dry.
How do I make the DemerBox waterproof?
Waterproofing
On the left is the internal view where the Port Plug should be stored when not in use. On the right is the external view where it will be installed to become waterproof.
Steps for how to install your Port Plug:
1) Remove the Port Plug from the Port Plug Holder inside the DemerBox.
2) Close the DemerBox lid and secure the latches.
3) Place the Port Plug into the matching opening on the outside lid, called the Port Hole.
4) Secure the Port Plug by lightly pressing the plug into the opening.
5) Twist the locking cap clockwise until it no longer turns.
Whenever your Port Plug is not in use, you should place it back inside the holder for safekeeping. Remember, storing the port plug in the backside of the Port Hole does not guarantee a proper seal and could almost certainly lead to water damage or over-compression of the rubber middle, resulting in a misshapen or inadequate seal over time.
Here's a short video demonstrating how to store the Port Plug.
If you lose your Port Plug or need a replacement, we can get it to you fast. Open a support ticket above if there's an issue with your Port Plug and you'd like some support directly. Follow this link to order a new one if you simply wish to replace it.
Quick Start Guide and Tips and Tricks Guide
We include a Quick Start Guide with every DemerBox purchase and we email a Tips & Tricks Guide. Sometimes customers lose the guide or delete the email accidentally.
Can I throw my DemerBox into a body of water?
Fully Waterproof
Here are two photos of the speaker cones. These are enclosed under the grills on the front of your DemerBox.
The first image is a healthy, functioning speaker. The second image is a speaker cone that was installed in a unit thrown facedown into water. When the smooth aluminum interior hit the water, it stamped the face resulting in distorted sound. The only solution is for us to replace the speaker. Please open a support ticket and we will be glad to get you back up and running.

What can I put inside my DemerBox?
Basically anything that fits!
Keys, wallet, socks, a sandwich. Playing music with stuff in your DemerBox will change the tone and might reduce the bass response. When I travel (this is Demer writing this) I pack my DemerBox into my bag and stuff it full of socks and t-shirts to save space.
When you're using the DemerBox in a pool or at the lake, put a couple beverages inside to keep the speakers facing upright.
The only thing you don't want to put in your DemerBox is water. Cold drinks are fine, but anything that could drip into the internal ports could cause an issue.
Can I play music from the USB port?
No. The USB port is for charging your stuff. If you plug a USB memory stick into the USB port and expect to hear music, you won't.
Does a DemerBox float?
Always ready for a pool party
The DemerBox lid stores all of the components like the battery, speakers, and circuitry - making the unit top-heavy.
To get the DemerBox floating upright, load a couple items into the storage compartment. This will act like a counterweight.
Can I bring a DemerBox as a carry-on in an airport?
Sure can! TSA agents may be curious about it, and maybe a little envious, but it's totally fine to carry on. We've also checked a DemerBox as luggage and it's so rugged it can handle that just fine, too.
How loud does the DemerBox get?
94db @ 1ft. DemerBox is loud enough for many situations, but not all.
For instance, it's loud enough for a backyard birthday party with a dozen people, but not loud enough for a crowd of 100. Most people who buy are satisfied with the volume it puts out. Try one out, and if you find it's not loud enough, send it back within 30 days for a full refund.
Some of our Amazon customers have said this about the DemerBox' volume:
- Brought ours for use in our UTV. Awesome sound and I doubt we've ever had it close to full blast. (Hope D., Amazon Customer)
- It’s pretty damn loud. We use it in our cattle barn which has fans and stuff and you can clearly hear it. Best BT speaker we’ve ever owned. (Unnamed, Amazon Customer)
- Yes. But that is something you have to decide for yourself. It’s not going to fill the beach with similar volume of, say, an aftermarket system blasting from a car. But it will give you plenty of great sound in my opinion. (Larry, Amazon Customer)
- Yes, this is impressively loud. I play spikeball near the ocean and have this as my soundtrack. (Craig S., Amazon Customer)
- Honestly, the sound (with the base port plug open) is amazing. I recently took my DemerBox on a camping trip with friends. I was one of the first to arrive so I was listening to some Tom Petty (RIP) when others started to trickle in to camp. One my friends started actively looking for the speakers, convinced we had brought an old school boom box to camp. We were there for four days. My DemerBox played for at least 30+ hours and was still going strong on a single charge. Bottom line: despite having had some initial price-induced hesitation, after using it on several trips, I have zero buyer’s remorse. (Jim S., Amazon Customer)
Can I put ice packs inside the DemerBox to use it as a cooler?
Ice packs can develop lots of condensation on their surface and the interior of the DemerBox is not waterproof, only the exterior. If you have a type of ice pack that does not develop condensation as it warms up, or if you wrap it in an absorbent material like a Sham Wow, you should be fine. You want to avoid having drops of water drip into the USB, charge port or 3.5mm stereo mini jack.
Can I upgrade the battery?
The battery is actually quite large. Our battery pack is 2600mah @ 11.1 nominal volts.
We use three A Grade 18650 cells and that gives you up to 40 hours play time between charges and will also give you plenty of power to charge your phone. Keep in mind that a small phone charger with 5v DC output is called 2600mah, but is often just one 18650 cell and a boost converter.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on which model you have.
At full volume, the Original DemerBox should last 50 hours. The new DB2 model at full volume will last for about 40 hours of playback.
Remember, if you're charging a device at the same time, that playback time will decrease. But you should still get a great many hours at max volume.
What is this black knob on top of the DemerBox?
What is this thing on top of the DemerBox? Should I try to remove it?
We get lots of questions about the black valve on top of the DemerBox. This is called the Pressure Equalization Valve (also known as a Purge Valve). It consists of a housing with a hole through it that is covered with a thin Gore-Tex® membrane.
According to the GoreTM tech sheet: “The microporous expanded polytetraflouroethylene (ePTFE) membrane continuously allows the free passage of gases and vapors, equalizing the pressure differential between the enclosure and ambient before it builds to the point that a seal is compromised. Water, dust and dirt are repelled by the hydrophobic membrane, thereby protecting expensive and sensitive electronics."
The red tag is a permanent attachment on the purge valve so please don't try to remove it. It's how you know you're using an official Pelican case.
Can you ship to an FPO address?

Which DemerBox do you have?
In June of 2019, DemerBox launched the DB2 - found on the right. This DemerBox is the same size as the original, but built in some new features. The easiest to recognize is the external switch plate highlighted above.
All DB2 models have UP/DOWN volume controls and battery indicator lights. The volume for the original DemerBox is controlled solely by your connected device and does not include indicator lights.
Note: If you have a custom switch, the labeling might look different while the functionality will remain the same.

The Pressure Equalization Valve
That small black knob/button on top of your DemerBox is the Pressure Equalization Valve (Purge Valve). It is a simple device that prevents your case from vacuuming shut when at high altitudes. It consists of a housing with a hole through it that is covered with a thin Gore-Tex® membrane. According to the GoreTM tech sheet: “The microporous expanded polytetraflouroethylene (ePTFE) membrane continuously allows the free passage of gases and vapours, equalizing the pressure differential between the enclosure and ambient before it builds to the point that a seal is compromised. - This step varies by device, but within your device's Bluetooth settings, you should see an option to "forget this device" or "remove this device." It may require you to tap an "information icon" within your Bluetooth settings.
Step 6: Confirm that no other device is connected to the DemerBox.
- Occasionally, another person may have connected to the DemerBox which disables your ability to connect to it. Only one Bluetooth device can be connected to a DemerBox at a time.
Step 7: Turn off your DemerBox for 5 seconds. Then turn it back on.
Step 8: In your Bluetooth settings, toggle Bluetooth off, then back on.
Step 9: Attempt to pair your device to the DemerBox once more.

DemerBox sound quality is poor
Sound Quality Issues

- Test the sound again. If issues persist, go to Step 2.
Step 2: Was the DemerBox put in water?
- If yes, proceed to Step 3.
- If no, proceed to Step 4.
Step 3: Are the speakers deformed? Take a look at the image below.
The speaker on the left is a normal, undamaged speaker. The speaker on the right shows a crushed cone and a deformed rubber lip.
- If yes, please open a support ticket. We'll need to fix the speakers to get your DemerBox sounding great again.
- If no, please continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Is the sound distorted at all volume levels?
- If yes, proceed to Step 5.
- If no, proceed to Step 6.
Step 5: Is the sound distorted when connected to Bluetooth and when connected via Auxiliary Cable?
(Note, please test both to check. Click this link to see how to connect.)
- If the sound is distorted for both, please open a support ticket after testing Step 6 so we can help you directly.
- If the sound is distorted for ONLY Bluetooth, please open a support ticket after testing Step 6 so we can help you.
- If the sound is distorted for ONLY the Aux. Cable, please test a different Aux Cable to see if the issue persists.
Step 6: Is the sound distorted at only high or low volume levels?
- If low volume levels distort, please double check connections. Often, low volume distortion is a result of not having the aux cable fully pushed in.
- If high volume levels distort, sometimes at the highest volumes, the device output can overpower the speakers. If you lower the highest volume slightly and distortion stops, that is likely the issue.
Note: If you feel the DemerBox is working correctly outside of sound distortion at the very loudest levels, it is likely that the audio output on your device is very powerful. We can certainly take a look in our shop if you'd like - open a support ticket to get started.
